This initiative, promoted by the Social Promotion Foundation, was born in 2017 with the aim of raising awareness of global education amongst young people in the Community of Madrid through their participation in the United Nations Models.

The project arises from the need to promote Women’s Empowerment so they could be “agents of change” for sustained economic growth, political stability, and social transformatio of our country. For this reason, it currently relies on non-profit associations and educational centers with this concern.

From 2017 to 2021, thanks to the support of the Fundación la Caixa YMM has benefited 561 young adolescents of school age and 121 volunteers in 12 cities in Spain and 4 in other countries around the world.

The general objective is to favor the construction of a global citizenship aware of the challenges of the 2030 Agenda and the engine of universal, inclusive and transversal change that promote the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Youth Mun Madrid offers:

After 3 editions, in 2020 the Fundación Promoción Social together with the Fabre Foundation and the collaboration of the Fundación la Caixa has adapted the Youth MUN Madrid leadership and awareness programme to the «new normality» derived from the Covid-19 crisis. In this way, the new bilingual (Spanish-English) online programme is accessible, inclusive and global for adolescents, teachers, educators and volunteers from all five continents.

Thanks to the online moodle platform (https://online.youthmunmadrid.com), young people can train in MUN from any educational centre, youth association, informal group or social entity in the world and prepare themselves to participate in the YMM Conference to which they can apply optionally. They only need to create a team of at least 5 adolescents aged 14-18 and have a facilitator (teacher, educator, volunteer – over age – or student with MUN experience) to help them enjoy this experience.

At YMM we consider the training of our facilitators, volunteers and young people to be of paramount importance. Therefore, we provide support training sessions throughout the programme:

– Initial training session for facilitators of each enrolled group.

– Training sessions for young volunteer leaders organising the online programme and the conference.

– Accompaniment of young volunteers and facilitators for the official accreditation of the competences acquired after their involvement in the programme through Reconoce.

– Face-to-face support workshops on the different MUN techniques for groups registered with entities with fewer resources (youth associations, informal groups, not coming from educational centres).

The Youth MUN Madrid Conference is a 3-day youth dialogue forum where students will have the opportunity to have an intercultural experience by participating in simulations of UN working sessions.

They will participate as delegates of a country in one of the UN committees and represent the position of that country to negotiate and agree with other countries on the adoption of resolutions for improvement. This will be done by adopting the UN rules of procedure and democratic values.

This activity is optional for all youth groups enrolled in the YMM programme. They can apply two months before the event.
